Patch Review: Loup De Guerre
I hate giving negative reviews to MWO. However, it's a duty not to pander to the masters as an objective citizen. The whole purpose of this is to give voice to our thoughts and feelings on our most beloved of games, whether or not we're satisfied with the direction of the game or with PGI in general.
This week's Patch Review is going to be short and not-so-sweet. It seems like the further we get into this, the less glowing reviews we can give PGI. Original Patch Notes here. Honestly, it's like we're in a nightmare where we actually pay to be in an Alpha-test.
With more and more companies doing things like this, it's just a matter of time before folks like me simply quit playing games sponsored by corporations altogether - or start developing our own. This entire patch is ridden with telltale signs that the PGI developers don't have any idea what to do with thier job, except to perhaps make cockpit items we can all pay a few extra bucks for. It would be cool - except for the fact that basic features aren't functioning that are critical to the game PGI said we would have by now.
So, the Loup De Guerre. Honestly, I'm more excited about the art updates than the new 'mech. Hopefully, all the 'mechs currently available will get this treatment. It's just one more thing that should have been done before anyone was even able to play this game.
If anyone cares about the cockpit items PGI has programmers spending valuable time on, you can get a list from the Patch Notes. What these flags are doing in the game is completely beyond me, but it speaks to a time when MWO will be completely removed from Battletech and its lore. Is this really what we have to look forward to?
Every Patch since UI 2.0 came out has been a comedy of errors. Corrections to correct corrections, overcorrections to correct corrections that weren't corrected in time, or simply weren't correct to begin with. On top of that, there's another single-player tournament fracturing the player base into single-player drops. I almost never get to drop solo (you Gatekeepers are always there for me) but in order to attempt the tournament I had to go off by myself.
Nice team game you have here, PGI.
Here's some tips for players based on this patch:
Don't buy the Mastery Bundles. Save your money and buy a game that works and is complete.
Be sparing with buying any MC until next patch, for that matter - unless you need Gatekeepers colors! We have to get PGI back on track, and unfortunately the only way to do that is by making our dissatisfaction heard (hence this article) and showing them that cockpit items aren't what we want when key game features are still missing, not working or otherwise hampering our enjoyment of the game. Or you could buy a national flag from a nation that doesn't exist within continuity.
