Janus Orworth, VAAT Graduate

Today we examine the personnel files of one of our Sang-Wei, Janus Orworth.  This document has been checked for veracity, and since it was delivered to Maskirovka via Orworth's RL counterpart we can be doubly sure of it's authenticity.

The only child in the family of an instructor at the Martial School of Tikonov (one Gordon Orworth and Earthwerks manager Vera Orworth nee Rokubungi), at first Janus had little chance to experience the life of prosperity that the general Capellan public could only dream of.   Instead, his parents found themselves in a precarious situation where the Tikonov Commonality had suddenly fallen prey to the vile machinations of Pavel Ridzik and his Davion cronies in 3029.  His father being one of the most staunch supporters of Maximilian Liao’s regime, little Janus’s family had no other chance but to escape to the core worlds of the Confederation and even farther still with the help of loyal Maskirovka operatives. 

For a whole year, Janus and his family had to endure hardships usually associated with forced relocation and security vetting.  Thankfully, with the help of Vera Orworth’s business contacts at Shengli Arms, Gordon was finally awarded tenure at the prestigious Victoria Academy of Arms and Technology (VAAT), where he would take up the mantle of adjunct professor in artillery and geodesy.  From there on out the future was all but assured for young Janus, who (not without a slight push from his father) successfully passed the entrance exams and enrolled in the VAAT in 3043.  However - his involvement with a group of students who had previously been reprimanded for lack of diligence and undutiful behaviour (as well as modest academic results) made his admission into the locally stationed Prefectorate Guards unit impossible. 

Thus, having finally graduated from the VAAT in 3048, Janus was assigned as a substitute Mechwarrior in the so-called Gatekeepers unit, patrolling the space around planet Purvo in close proximity to both the Federated Commonwealth and the St. Ives Compact.  It is quite usual for children to resent their parents during certain forming years that the youth of all nations go through, but more often than not rules have exceptions, and that proved to be the case with Orworth.  It was exactly because of his father’s area of expertise that Janus picked up a penchant for everything capable of discharging aerodynamically shaped projectiles at high velocities.  His years at VAAT also helped him acquire more than enough knowledge in autocannon maintenance.
