Family Background:  The Kondur family on Menke had been in the employment of the McCarron's Armored Cavalry since 2996.  The modest Kondur family holdings on Menke was much improved from it’s employment with ‘The Big Mac’ though significant losses were suffered during the Davion raids in 3045.

Training Background:  Jochi began his apprenticeship as a Tech by his father’s side from the age of 7.  His father’s employer, McCarron's Armored Cavalry, arranged for him to be enrolled at the Philotechnique Institute on Capella after his citizenship service and he joined the 6th MAC in 3045 as an assistant Mech Tech.  Marcus Baxter, his CO in the 6th, recognising the need for Mechwarriors to be able to make their own field repairs efficiently earmarked promising young Techs like Jochi for Mechwarrior training and he qualified in 3048.

Employment Background:  Mech Tech - 6th MAC, 3045 - 3048.  Mechwarrior - 6th MAC, 3048 - 3049.  Though qualified as a Mechwarrior in 3048, Jochi’s unit the 6th MAC never formally receive combat ready status and was disbanded in 3049.  The surplus of experienced Mechwarriors and Techs from the 6th’s disbandment meant that Jochi had to look off-world for new employment.

Jochi looked at his hands.  They were blistered and covered in bruises from days of helping Vasily fix the Hermes’ Primitive K-F Drive.  He cursed the trainee jumpship pilot who forgot that the Primitive K-F Drive needed to be trickle-charged from the ship’s fusion reactor and crippled the drive in the process.  He looked up at the weary hull of the Aquilla-class JumpShip, the old gal might really be on her last leg.  The ‘Big Mac’ base on Menke had all the best repair facilities and Techs in the Confederation but it all meant nothing when it came to the Primitive Technology of ancient jumpships like the Hermes.

"Baxter wants you in his office!" hollered Vasily, interrupting Jochi’s thoughts.  A few minutes later, Jochi stood before the grim face of his former CO.

 "I’m sorry you’re not being paid much for the ad hoc work you’ve been doing around the base.  I put out a few feelers for you in the CCAF for enlistment as a Mechwarrior.  So far, several units have responded with interest in enlisting you as a Mech Tech at the rank of San-ben-bing.  The CCAF are picky about new Mechwarriors joining their ranks and would normally only recruit from the State war colleges. There is however, a unit that is on the CCAF combat roster that has not yet been formally recognized and willing to enlist merc-trained Mechwarriors.  They’re looking to expand a company on Purvo to battalion size.  I’d ask you to consider joining other merc companies, Jochi.  Or at least wait another year on Menke to see if an opening comes up", advised Baxter.  Jochi’s burning vengeance demanded Davion blood for his parents’ lives lost during the raid in 3045, and if he couldn’t get it through the MAC or the CCAF then maybe this battalion on Purvo might be his ticket.

"I can leave tomorrow, sir," said Jochi. Baxter took a moment to collect his thoughts, he never seriously considered that the young man would take up the Purvo option, but perhaps he underestimated his resolve.

"Right, you leave in a fortnight.  I have a surplus 'mech, a Hunchback-4G, from my personal inventory back in the facilities of the former 6th,"  Jochi managed to contain his smile at Baxter’s mention of the 4G, as he remembered retrofitting the 'mech with endo-steel structure and added more ammo slots for the AC/20 during the stand-down period before the 6th was disbanded.

"You won't be much of a MechWarrior if you turn up on Purvo without a 'mech," Baxter continued, "You can come back tomorrow for your enlistment papers and the transfer papers for your 'mech." he finished with a resigned sigh.
