In the early part of the 21st century, two fringe scientists began to theorize that space could be warped to effect travel at great speed over the span of light years. Though both men put forth theories as early as 2018, the larger scientific community remained skeptical about the whole idea until well after their deaths in 2107. When the Kearny-Fuchida drive was proven to work and a manned JumpShip actually used it, it didn't take long for mankind to begin stretching the boundaries of his sphere.
Following up on information from the slower-than-light Magellan probes launched in 2029, a mission was planned to voyage beyond the solar system for the first time. The TAS Pathfinder arrived in the Tau Ceti system in early December of 2108 - little more than a year after the first use of the Kearny-Fuchida drive. Ten days later, Michelle Land became the first human to set foot upon a world under the light of another star. Tau Ceti IV, as it was known then, became the first human colony outside the solar system.
Formal inauguration of the colony came on March 18, 2116. Now called New Earth, the planet has remained an important spot in the Inner Sphere. Though it lies within Lyran space, we must remember history as it is, we honor the ancients who took those first steps into the stars. Our great Confederation came much later - after much more hegemony - but then, this is ancient history in the year 3050.
